Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia. -- E.L. Doctorow

Alas, my blog doesn't include online comments, but feel free to share your responses with me at cyan@protgp.com 08/12/2007I added three new stories, all to the membership section this time. It would perhaps be more than three, but Real Life remains a major intrusion on my writing time these days. The stories: "Over Easy" is about what goes on between a heterosexual couple and their new lesbian neighbors. "Something Borrowed" shows what can go wrong when you borrow your co-worker's office. "Last Night" I just wrote this weekend, and is a female-dominant wedding story. One thing I have been working on while I was not writing is cleaning up the site's links. I've gone through most of them, eliminating sites that are gone, updating links when necessary, and verifying the ones that remain. Perhaps in a month or two, I will have gone through them all. Some links I added this year: I found the storysite Isabella Reyes at Maria's Site. Deliciously_Naughty comes from nakkidnerds.com. Suzy Bauer of Step-by-Step Threesome sent me Threesome Pickup Artist. From Spanking Blog, I got Vintage Spanking Photos and The Spanking News. From Erotica Readers & Writers Association, I got the reading/writing related links, Erotic Authors Association and Erotica Revealed. Patty, of Creative Spanked Wife now has Patty's Gallery, with her beautiful art work and more. Black Label Adult Shop linked to me, and for that, I am appreciative. Other sites on which I discovered links are: the link site GoPornography, the store A.R.M. Enterprises, the blogs Dreams of an Erotica Queen (by the woman behind Inky Blue Allusions) and The Spank Statement, the personal writing site TSade, the link site Fast Pleasure, the erotic art site AMEA // World Museum of Erotic Art, and the erotic story link site Top Story Links. Some sites I found on my travels through cyberspace include the bondage pay site, Damsels In Peril as well as the portal Positive Porn, the picture/art blog Rare Erotica, the story site BareMistress' Erotic Thoughts, the picture blogs, The Kiss and Titty Blog, and the non-erotic portal, StumbleUpon. Also, the spanking story site Spanking Life, the story site Sex and Masturbation Editorials, the female dominant story site Anne's Rules of Disciplining Your Man, and the spanking blogs The Spanking Couple from a very interesting real couple, Clare Fonda Spanking about Clare Fonda's spanking-site productions, The Spanking Spot, which gives samples of recent spanking pictures, Adele Haze's Spanking Model Speaks, the commercial Spanking Blogg, and the personal spanking blog Strange Imagination, More links I ran across are the personal author site A Adams Author, the not-recently-updated-yet-nice webzine, Ophelia's Muse, the very specialized photo blogs Wedding Sex, and Babes With Books, the interesting looking French erotic blog Au Fil des Jours, the erotic search engine AskJolene.com, the spanking site Traditional Spanking, the adult blog directory Blogs for Women, the female supremacy site CYBELIANS, the commercial producer of spanking videos Chelsea Pfeiffer Entertainment, and the producer of lavish "Story of O"-style videos, Bound Heat. I got the usual bunch of fascinating sites from Jane's Guide, including the collection of experiences How Not To Get Laid, the informative site on old erotic books Vintage Sleaze, the photo site Bare Maidens, the commercial spanking site Hard Caning, the personal blog pretty dumb things, the fancy site for the women's erotic film "The Good Girl" Lust Films, the vintage photo site Vintage Seduction, the personal story site Daneswood Erotica, the personal blog Kinkerbelle, the BDSM story site SM tales, the picture blog All Things CFNM, the photography site M Wild Photography, the erotic author's sites Laura Bacchi and Sylvia Day, the Cyber Dyke site with cross-over appeal Sappho's Girls, and the organic sex store The Sensual Vegan. 04/02/2007Hi all. I just put up all the new stories that I've had in the bank: three of them, all rather short. In the free area is "Simple Solution", about a woman reluctant to give her new boyfriend oral. The members' area has "Something Sexy", about a woman giving thought to what to wear (privately) on her honeymoon. In both stories, there are "helpful" friends with just the kind of advice we want to witness. Also in the members' area is "No Secrets", about a couple that joins a secret society. The initiation period, of course, is the interesting part. (And, of course, in stories such as these, members of interest don't always manage to graduate beyond the initiation period.) Writing has been slow. As usual, I have some more ideas that I have not put to paper yet, and a half-finished story started in February. Also, this past weekend, I tinkered with the beginnings of a long story. I had considered whether it's plot was going to be "clean" enough for the site, but at the moment, I plan to do that. It's an adventure-tale of sorts of a woman who has just escaped from a bad relationship, and drawn into kinky adventure by her impulsive best friend. At this moment, the two of them are at a biker hangout, and being treated more-or-less as slaves. I hope to find the time to finish it this week while I'm motivated. Happy reading! 01/28/2007Here's some good news. The site has another new member! This is the first paying member to join since November, which I certainly appreciate. Hooray! Welcome! One more reader for all those stories that practically nobody sees. I figure it like this: if I get a hundred people to join daily, well, I'd begin feeling truly wealthy. With just twenty people joining each working day, I could retire. Perhaps seven a day would be like a not-very-high-paying full-time job. Just ten each month would give me some extra cash: perhaps enough over the course of a year to buy myself a nice new TV set or something like that. One a month is about enough to cover the bills for running this site. I'm working my way up this list. To accomplish this, I've recently considered taking a couple more baby-steps into that dark, amoral world of marketing. (I took the ride down the elevator from my penthouse office to the thirtieth floor of the Cyan Stories Tower and approached my "marketing weasels" about this. Or is "marketing 'droids" the proper term?) I've made concessions before. My view of which link-directories should link my site changed very quickly when I first began to solicit such links. I originally figured this site should be listed in directories of classy erotica sites. Soon I discovered that there were only a few of those, that people did use them and appreciate them, but not very many, and I decided I didn't care who was looking at my stories or where they came from, and solicited links in many more directories. Perhaps a look at quality erotic stories would uplift these readers in some manner. (The mind has a way of rationalizing almost anything.) I also added the incomplete stories, which is an obvious marketing ploy, but I very clearly marked them as being incomplete. And I worked on the page language and search engine optimization based upon things I read on the web about marketing. The language on some of the Cyan Stories web pages is quite stilted as a result of that. For example, on the warning page is the phrase: "Here you will find erotica, erotic stories, sex stories, naughty stories, fantasies you would never wish to live out, but you just might enjoy reading them." I deliberately put in the words and phrases, "erotica", "erotic stories", "sex stories", and "naughty stories", as various words and combinations folks might use when they for this kind of thing. So, what other dark bargains could I strike? What other marketing techniques? How else can I lure you into my trap? Subliminally guide you into sending me your money for a look at this stuff? One idea is to offer the site for $9.95 instead of an honest $10.00. Could a hundred years of marketing experience be wrong? Perhaps I've missed out on a ton of sales through an obtuse, outdated notion. Another idea I've had recently is to offer a "deal"; for example: a year for $14.95. I'm not sure, but I think I've read that when people are presented with something that suggests a good deal, even if it's only in comparison to your own "normal" price, that they are just a little more likely to go for it. The fact that a choice is offered makes it more likely that someone will chose one. Another way I could adopt a competing price would be to offer three months for $8.00. Then $10.00 for six months seems more like a deal. But would an $8.00 price lose me revenue? You'd be able to download the whole set for $2.00 less. Typically this would lose you no more than one set of updates, perhaps five stories or so in the membership section. Would any of this make any difference? I don't know. Given the site's current rate of return, it couldn't hurt much. Another bit of news: I'm working through the links page to update it. I find it very easy to add any link that looks interesting to me, but it is real work to make sure over time that they still function and still lead to the sites that first attracted me. For a while, I made myself review a few links every week, with the goal of reviewing them all annually. I have some seven hundred links, which means I'd need to average two a day. However, I ran out of gas in that endeavor over a year ago, and the links page could now use a good housecleaning. I've tried link-testing software, which has helped me a bit, but often when a site disappears, a generic site is put in its place that is nothing like I would recommend. This month, I've now gone through a bunch, eliminating close to thirty and confirming over a hundred this month. In some cases I found the site was at a new address. There're still a lot more to go through. Going through all that erotica: it's a tough job, but someone has to do it. 01/07/2007As far as membership goes, I've had two new members in the past three months. By my calculations, nine more memberships remain active from the previous three months, meaning there are now eleven people with access to the 275 stories currently in the membership area. In the past year, I added just four free stories, but nineteen more for members. And the cost to join is a one-time small fee that will only make me rich if millions join, alas. (I can feel it in my bones: Oprah is about to discover my site, and I'll have it made.) So if you liked the free stories and would like to see more, check out joining. I've added a bunch of new literary links since I last wrote. From Jane's Guide, I have the site of author Thomas Roche, which includes information about his books and some stories; Lusty Library, also offering stories; D/s Culture, an interesting site from a couple that includes stories, information, and poetry; and author Isabella Snow's blog and book information. And from Erotica Readers & Writers Association, I have Sommer Marsden's myspace page, P.S. Haven's site with book information and stories, and The Rauxa Prize for Erotica Writing, another site of interest to writers. I added a link to Inky Blue Allusions, a pay site much like my own, only classy, and it gives you a variety of authors instead of just one. Go read the samples and check it out. Myths and Metawhores, a very nice blog/story site (with photos!) was kind enough to link to me. As I surfed, I ran across a couple of sites on history of erotica: Fanny Hill, that seems to be on visual erotica, and The Erotica Bibliophile, an obvious labor of love on books and illustration. Another site that kindly linked to me is the question/answer information site, Ask Uncle Terry. I updated a couple of links to use their new Internet names: SarAdora's Spanking Erotica (which I just corrected: it was wrong on my links page) and the blog, Sexualité. And finally, a couple of pay sites (photos and videos): I saw Sybian World at Jane's Guide. And I found Special Exercises surfing, which unfortunately does not have a lot of samples, but explores the D/S possibilities of the scenario of having your exercise program directed by a personal trainer. Gee, it sounds like one of my stories! 01/06/2007Now here's some good news for 2007. Eleven new stories including two in the free section! I've had quite a few other ideas for stories as well. When I get an idea, sometimes I mentally flesh it out and am itching to get it down. If I don't manage to find the time, I'm left with the feeling that there's a story there that I really wanted to write. Sometimes by the time I get to it, I've forgotten some of the details I'd mentally worked out and no longer feel I can make it work. Right now, there are a few that I still want badly to put into words. So here are the new stories: "Expect Results" is about a poor guy who is being pressured at work to perform, and at the same time, his love life is going nowhere. The story covers a day's adventure in his life. I think the very end of the story is stolen from a Monty Python skit. "Fair Trade" concerns a man and his crass neighbor's outrageous proposal. The proposal concerns their wives. I felt I was stretching the story thin, and don't be surprised if you find edits to the story in the future to see if I can shore it up. Maximizing its plausibility may take all my meager talents. I do continue to edit stories even after they are posted if I reread something that screams for a tweak. "Idle Wishes" (free!) is a little story of a woman who admits to her husband that having a younger woman around for her to dominate would be pleasant. How does one go about arranging something like that? "Innocent Question" sticks its toe in that un-PC area of boss-to-worker come-ons. I've written boss/worker scenarios before and I often take steps to spell out that the relationship is mutual, and the worker made their own choice, and I've done bit little of that here. This one was a special challenge in that regard because the worker is a housemaid. "Just Sex" is perhaps the twelfth time I've written a story where a woman receives a totally-unexpected come-on from her best female friend. "Not Everything" is also pretty far into fantasy. The wives make a bet, and the loser's husband is the one who pays. Female domination of a sort ensues. "Not Giving" is what came out when I mulled over a classic plot: a woman who has two men competing for her. In the pop-psychology book, Games People Play, one of the games described has the cute title "Let's you and him fight", which is about women who are horrified to be the object of a public brawl between two men, when the woman had consciously or unconsciously promoted the confrontation. Naturally, I twist this. I remember years ago reading a letter to an advice columnist, from a woman who described this same story, so-to-speak. "Not Likely" (also free!) is likely my seventeenth story about a man who is uncomfortable when his wife shows an interest in male-male sex. "Once Caught" is the longest of these stories, a fairly elaborate one that begins when a wife discovers her husband has some interest in BDSM. I used the cliche that she noticed what website he's visiting. It turns out his wife has something of a past. I recall writing one similar to this as well. Many of my stories show formerly-vanilla people getting caught in a web of BDSM. "Quick Trick" is relatively rare for me: a story in which the major character is already involved in a BDSM community-of-sorts. Like all my stories, she's caught off guard by something. The plot begins when she recognizes someone in the course of her normal day as someone in the club she belongs to. I know nothing about private BDSM clubs, or rather only what a writer can pick up reading Internet sites on the subject, both accurate and "not so" (and with a little common sense, you can pretty easily tell which is which). So if you are more active than I, use such stories from me for inspiration, rather than taking them as anything true-to-life. I'll use fantasy in this sort of context as much as I will in my accounts of daily suburban life. In "Simple Request", a wife asks her husband if there is something more he wants from her in the way of sex. You know that in my stories, a question like that is going to lead her far beyond anything she had expected or intended. I also wrote an additional story, but it is a mite too edgy to put on the site. Believe it or not, I am protecting your sensibilities. Or if not yours personally, then those of others who visit here and find the posted stories already at the edge of their limits. I have a small collection of stories that are actually only a little bit edgier than this website's stories. It's a very small collection, I think about four stories, and they aren't really that much "stronger" than what's here: you can find much more from others, all over the Internet. Someday I might set up a different pseudonym on asstr.org or storiesonline.net and post them. If I do that, let's see, it'll be my fifth pseudonym. 10/15/2006The site did pretty well in July, August, and September, regarding membership: four sign-ups in July and four more in August. At least three of those eight are loyal readers who have signed up again. None in September, but so far, October has a sign-up. Welcome to one and all, and I hope you feel you got what you are looking for, or more. Also, I did some link updating. Elise Sutton was kind enough to announce the new address of Lady Misato's site, Real Women Don't Do Housework, so I updated my links page accordingly. Surfing, I found another very cute site on a similar theme called Making Him Your Dream Man. I added a link to the blog, Erotica Gatherer, which, as I mentioned before, I found at Stories Online, and links to some spanking-related blogs: Katie's Punishment And Spanking Blog, and SpkrBryan's Blog, both of which I found at Aunty Agony. Story sites to which I've linked include Vanna Vechian, Julia Rebecca, and Ann Regentin, which I found at Jane's Guide, and Cynthia's Hypnotic Story Site, which I found surfing. A couple of erotica-related sites are Couples Reviews, and HotMoviesForHer.com, both of which I also found at Jane's Guide. 10/06/2006Here's some good news: I'm adding six new stories this time. "Absolute Best" is about a woman who receives sex advice from a friend after a breakup. "Desperate Measure" is about a woman who talks to her best friend about her marriage troubles, and receives relationship advice. "Especially You" is a short lesbian scene. "Her Confidence" starts with what I suppose could be a male dream-come-true: a female friend suggesting no-strings sex. "His Confidence" is also about a woman getting sex advice from a friend, this time, to a woman who feels tempted to stray. Also, in the free section, is "Get Acquainted", about a woman who rashly promises her husband a threesome. So, do you detect any themes here? Three of the stories involve marriage, but that is hardly unusual for my stories. I don't think there is a spanking in any of these stories, so perhaps I can finally say goodbye to that phase of my writing. There are a couple of additional themes that strike me. First, relationship advice is central to three of the stories. Please remember that this is not real advice on how to save, revive, or strengthen your relationship. These are, after all, sex stories, so you can guess the general tenor of the advice. Use advice offered in these stories only if the specific sex acts appeal to both of you. Otherwise, do not try this at home. The other theme that comes to mind is female-to-male oral sex, which is also prominent in three of the stories. (So now you have a hint of what sort of relationship advice one gets from a sex story.) Enjoy. 07/12/2006Three new stories: "Not Frightened", about a guy minding his own business who has to contend with a forward woman, "Big Deal", about a woman who comes to believe her boss is coming on to her, and in the free section, "Hot Girl", about a vacation adventure. I have more story ideas recorded for future development. Membership signup continues to be slow: two in May, and one so far in July. So you can still be among the first joiners, before the teeming hoards come aboard, right? I believe they are all new folks. If you have just joined, welcome, and enjoy. Sites to which I've recently linked, include the following, that linked to me first (thanks!): the store, Xandria Collection; the blog, Blistered Lips; and the X-rated link site, Top Notch Adult XXX. Also, from the blog/story site, FransWorld, I received referrals for being a member of the Authors of Literary Erotic web ring. I like Francine's site, so I've added a direct link. From Erotica Readers & Writers Association: is Alessia's Erotic Story Website. I found the blog, Aunty Agony, at Spanking Blog. I found the blog Erotica Gatherer, that includes reviews, at Stories Online. And since Stories Online allows authors to link to their blogs, I added a link to here. 04/12/2006I added some stories, which is the good news. The bad news is, I only have three to add, and none for the free section. The stories are "Free Spirit", about a woman who has become concerned about her apartment-mate's habits, "Hardly Believable", which begins with a wife amazing her husband, and "Quite Feasible", a female-dominant couple story that could be described as extreme in its own way. As these are all I have for January, February, and March that leaves me short of my target of two stories per month. It also does not include a story for the free section. But to make up for that, I have added one more story to Storiesonline.net. It is "Crazy Day", from Cyan Stories' Membership section. I also gave the story a little bit of editing. I have posted stories here and there in the past, and often stories that aren't available for free here, so folks can have the fun of getting something extra. You have to sign up with Storiesonline.net to read the stories it hosts, but it is free. I have no connection with the site other than being one among a huge number of authors who have posted stories. Though my output has been low, I have record a few new story-ideas that I haven't developed yet. January through March was a good quarter as far as site membership is concerned: seven memberships sold, one of which was a resale. Thank you, one and all. Some more good news for the site is that G o o g l e appears to be listing Cyan Stories once again, in search results. For a while, I was getting nothing, then for a while, only searches that specifically specified the site, but now searches like "erotic stories" turn up Cyan Stories once more. Such searches used to provide me with more than twice as many visitors as I get now, total. G o o g l e is not giving me that much now, but does give a few visitors. Sites recently listed on Jane's Guide that I chose to link here include: the excellent fetish art site, Veronica Vinyl; Nudes From Down Under, a photo posting site from south of the equator; Beautiful Agony, which is not about S/M, and just might be the only pay site out there that could possibly appeal to you, and does indeed have some samples; Sexualite, a blog (yawn), but one worth reading; and two very nice art photo sites, Chapapeela, and San Francisco Nudes. I found a few more writers' personal sites listed at the Erotica Readers & Writers Association: Riain Grey, Monica M. Martin, Melissa Glisan, Lauren Dane. And for those into sex pictures, I added a link to the Spanking video/photo link site, Spanking TGP. 01/08/2006I've added a few links lately. At ERWA I found writers Saskia Walker and His Sweet Serenity. And at Jane's I found the storysite, Dale H. West. I received new links (that I am aware of) at Sex Fantasies and blogarama. Thanks. I thought I'd talk a little about the kind of link you'll find on my Links page. To begin with, my own taste is paramount. There are sites I just have to link to and sites I will not link to, no matter how well they fit what criteria I've evolved. The criteria are pretty much the link categories on the page, which definitely includes a lot of categories of erotica fiction and stories. I also stick to sites with some sort of content. Someone who identifies themselves as a writer but there are no stories, I'll almost surely pass. The exception to that rule are published authors, who provide a site that lists their books. That is useful information, and certainly pertinent to the theme of this site, erotic fiction. I also look for content that is free. I don't mind listing a pay site, but if it does not include some interesting free content, I usually pass. To some degree I am more likely to include a quirky or unusual site. To some degree, alternative sexuality is a preference. That's not because I'm into it so much, but because I enjoy seeing a variety of people bust stereotypes and skewer political correctness. Nice people doing naughty things probably attracts me. And sometimes I just find a site funny. And I have to admit, that my "standards" are looser for a site that links to me (or might). I nevertheless have standards: there are sites that send mine referrals that I do not link back to. It is part of the business now to try to get people to link to your site by linking to theirs and/or sending them referrals. Occasionally I've been delighted with a particular site that links to mine, but I'm practically forced to eliminate some of these sites, which are sometimes totally off topic, such as gambling sites. I also pass on linking back to sites that I prefer not to promote, or that I can't stomach. Sometimes I even do so mainly to protect sensibilities of visitors I hope to attract. Yes, I am looking out for you, like it or not. Some kinds of sites, I don't even care to mention, given today's vast variety of what is available online. I pass on linking back to phone-sex sites though I'm not sure why (I'd hate to think it's because I'm too PC! If you disagree with my decision, Jane's doesn't share that particular attitude of mine, so I invite you to look for them there.) I pass on linking back to sites that promote sex vacations. There are other types of sites and even themes that put me off. Regarding the popularity of my site, I've known about Alexa for a while, which currently lists cyan.protgp.com as 130,692 in site popularity at this moment. However, they apparently refer to the domain, protgp.com. When I look up www.protgp.com, I get the same number, 130,692. I recently found out about www.netcraft.net, which also lists traffic ranks, looking at all three parts of the name. It lists cyan.protgp.com with rank 413,492. A few numbers to compare that with: www.erotica-readers.com has rank 55,832 and www.janesguide.com has rank 17,414. Looking at some more popular sex-oriented sites, it lists www.thumbzilla.com as 2375 www.playboy.com as 2619. I noticed that it lists two different ranks, with and without the "www", so, for example, names www.janesguide.com and janesguide.com each are listed with their own rank. Since you can't easily "add" ranks, it prevents you from knowing the combined rank, but Alexa helps you there.
